Check out new infographic below by World IPv6 Launch, the body tasked by the Internet Society to help fast track and streamline the move towards a new Internet protocol.
IPv6 is a new protocol designed to replace IPv4, which essentially will stop the Internet from running out of IP addresses that are crucial to handle new users and websites coming online over the next decade.
On June 8, 2011, a number of hosting providers and domain resellers, including Resell.Biz, joined together on World IPv6 day for a successful global trial of the new protocol. In fact, in total, nearly 1000 website companies proved that the protocol could work.
On June 6th of this year the protocol was implemented permanently and will allow further growth to take place.
According to the infographic, there are at least 7 billion people on earth but only 4.3 billion IPv4 addresses. Certain global regions ran out of IPv4 addresses last year including the Asia Pacific. Africa is due in November 2014.
The new IPv6 protocol loads the Internet with 340 trillion trillion trillion addresses or put another way: 3.4 x 1038.
It also means that hosting providers have to show some technical acumen in delivering services that can accommodate the IPv6 protocol. Not all hosting providers are created equal in this respect.
When IPv6 went live on June 6, 2012, nearly 3000 website operators took part including AOL, Bing, Cisco, NASA and YouTube. 65 Network Operators joined in too, including Comcast and Verizon. At least 5 home router vendors took part, including Cisco, D-Link, and ZYXEL.
Websites and reseller packages you deploy on Resell.Biz take advantage of a dual stack IP protocol implementation that allows deciphering of both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. This means applications, websites, and platforms continue to function without disruption as part of a 99.9% uptime guarantee.
The Resell.biz platform provides end-to-end management and automation for your business including a Reseller Store and turnkey domain manager control panel. Also ask about a comprehensive domain API that allows for full integration with your current business or application.
